Looking good Larry! I like the looks of the handle. How was the root to work and is that the natural color of it? Ray
You know it looks almost like a foot..... The handle that is... |

That's a beauty Larry. I'll bet that handle has a nice cozy feel to it. I love that mesquite root. That's beautiful wood. A very nice knife, to be sure.

Larry, that's fantastic! I really really like that!
Hey, I didn't know Ooltewah had an L in it!? All the times I've passed through that town on the way down to paddle the Ocoee river and I never noticed that, I thought it was spelled Ootewah. Got some refractory material on it's way to you, BTW. -Darren p.s. where are you guys getting these fancy graphical signature lines!? They're nice! I want one! __________________ Gas Forges, Refractory, & Knifemaking Supplies Refractory.EllisCustomKnifeworks.com Visit the Forge Gallery - forge building resource pages ForgeGallery.EllisCustomKnifeworks.com |

Excellente, Larry. Very nice indeed, Sir. That handle is alive!
The nice signatures are from quenching north. Sorry Darren, just couldn't resist, Bro. Hope you don't come after me with one of your straight razors. I'd like to know where y'all get the name stamps too. They look really nice. |

Thanks Guys I appreciate the comments.
Ray, the Mesquite is great to work. This piece was one of those "top of the root" pieces that people make clocks out of. I noticed it had like a quilted look to it, so I picked it up a long time ago intending to do a carving with it, but stripped it up for handles instead. Natural color, I just used a finish called Waterlox that really penetrates, but is clear. I got it from a guy that was finishing bowling alley lanes. Hey I didn't notice the foot! Oh Oh! I wonder if its going to stink after its been out in the sun for awhile? Darren, when you have quenched North-South for a period of.... Just kidding Man! Good one Dana! I got my banner from Chuck Burrows who is putting together the web-site for me. He's doing the best he can with the pictures I've given him to work with. The banner came with it I guess? All I did was to say "Hey where are ya'll getting those cool banners Chuck? Can I have one?" Also he gives me advice and help on improving my sheaths, aging processes for metal and leather, numerous links to History and materials, photography 101, and an Unbelievable amount of computer help! |

Larry, Its a left foot, can't you see the grain figure looks like toes all mushed together. Its not a perfect foot, just a little deformed. I like it....
