Bowie 1

Finally MADE time to forge a little. Tried Tai's method of forging a bowie from his tutorial "How to forge a Bowie". Worked like a charm. Maybe it was beginers luck, but it curved down and then back up, just like he said it would. Thanks Squid

Rat tail

Drew out the tang, profiled a bit. Left it a little beefy around the edges so I can adjust it as I go.

Looking good, what'd you use for steel? Can't wait to see it finished. Any plans for the handle/guard yet?

Maybe Tai will post the tutorial. I could not find it on his website. I had just remembered how to do it from looking at it so many times in the past.

Our forum brother, singertat2 came to town yesterday. He is following and tattooing on the OZ fest tour. Because of funky regulations in Detroit, he skipped it, and came to spend the week with me. they will pick the show back up in Cleveland on the 19th. We spent the day going thru my junk. he commented that he liked clips on bowies to be a little longer. I do too, but I tried to stick with the one side then the other and take what you get spirit of the tutorial. Next time I will start with a longer clip to begin with. I hope to send him off with a blade to take home and finish.
Tai tutorial
Hope Tai don't mind me posting this. I see now that my remembery was all bass-ackwards. I used the clip angle that was cut on the chisel and I did the tang last.

Well, my company left But not before we got to hammer him out a blade to take home. We ran out of time to do the tang so he is going to get a buddy to weld a stick on the back. Seems like company is my best motivator. I need to have someone come every weekend

Cornfed got eight more weeks of tattooing "OZZY" across kids knuckles before he can get to it. he oughta have it real shiny by rubbing it by then.
When he got here i had to go look in my bed for the Bowie I was working on because I had slept with it. He just shook his head and said, "You got it bad"
