I haven't decided yet. I had African blackwood or ebony in mind, but it is probably going to be a dark dyed maple burl. I picked up some good mammoth tooth in Atlanta a couple weeks ago with this knife in mind, but it turned out to be just a little bit too small, so I'll save it for a different project. |

I know you're out there. I can hear ya poundin'.
I just finished a folder! Papi's thread got me started. I 'll try to get some pics up tomorrow. I recycled a tang from an old quenching victim into a decent little pocket-sized blade. |

Here,s one i just finished
I wish the picture,s could convey how feel it feels in hand. It,s Light and fast ! As well as super grippy and feel,s just as good righty or lefty. It,s made from a V shaped Nicholson file that has been tempered down, with hammered brass, butt, guard, and pins it,s 11 1/4 oa. I have no idea what you would call the style of the knife?Viking,s come to mind when i look at it so maybe a period piece ? The swages don,t show in the pics,And the 1st pic makes the handle look somehow out of balance with the blade(not the case)The last pic gives a better sense of how it looks in person Photo taking yet another skill to learn(sighhh). Being unemployed sucks ! As i wish i could keep this one for myself. But economic reality force,s me to put it on the block. |

I wasn't happy with the shape of the large bowie blade I forged earlier this week. Went back to the forge this morning and did a little rework. The top one is after rework and the bottom one is before. What do ya'll think?

Mike,
I like the change better. |

Definitely. Looks good, Mike. You may want to think about getting a bit more blade above the tang. It appears that this one may sit a little low in the handle when finished.
Nice little "nessmuck-y" looking thing, FOG2. How did you darken the stag? |

Arkansas toothpick replica based on a picture out of a book about Bowies. It's 1080 and I have the handle, pommel and small bolster turned and the guard finished and slotted. Just have to HT, sand and mount the hardware. It will have a 13" blade. Right now it's finish filed. The entire spine is a false edge.
I am benched right now recovering from surgery but ready to hit it ASAP. |

Made from a Nicholson file it,s 7 3/4 lenght 3/16thick and 15/16 wide with some gorgeous Honduran Rosewood scales and black liners. The width of the blade combined with the high grind made this one a TERRIFIC slicer !
I need to do the final finish on the blade and put her on the block I was trying to show the contour of the handle in the last pic.( Limited success) One of the more normal one,s i mentioned Last edited by FOG2; 08-26-2009 at 08:02 PM. |
