Thumbs up

OK, guys, let's see some more WIP and finished barlow pictures.

13 days left to get them finished on the 4th of July.

Please note!!!

If you haven't sent me pictures of your finished knives, please do so now and as soon as they're finished.

I'm going to put them all up on a new temporary page on my web site for all the world to see on the 4th.

I'm busy making knives for the Texas show next month.

I'm getting there Don!! Just got to slit the lock, fit bolsters and scales, and Heat treat.

I've had LOTS of projects on the go and have just managed to get a new wokshop rent free, but I've had to put some work into it in payment. I'll have a grinding and forging room and also a clean room for assembly and fine work.

Sorry I've not done any w.i.p photo's but the wait will be worth it

Andy..

Good afternoon, gentlemen; I've saved a copy of Chris Crawford's tutorial on making folder washers out of razor blades and am going to try it out as soon as I am feeling better. In the mean time I am not too satisfied with my current method of punching out washers of .020 nylatron(McMaster-Carr). My punches are new but it seems no matter what I use as a base the washers come out "fuzzy" on the edges. I sand it off and its ok, I guess, but it seems like I should be able to get cleaner edges. Am I just being anal or can someone share their method of making their own washers that could solve the problem? Thanx, Pat McGroder

Sounds like your work shop is going to be great, Andy.

I'm glad to hear you'll have your barlow done in time. We're looking forward to seeing it.

I hadn't given it any thought before, since most of us are here in the U.S., but you don't celebrate the 4th of July over there, do you?

On the other hand, though, you may celebrate the holiday because you're happy to be rid of us!!!

For those of you who don't know Andy, he's in the United Kingdom.

Sounds like you are using a tapered gasket punch.

Pat, I use a toolmaker's punch set from Enco, or MSC. It works exactly like a punch press die, with a base containing the different size holes and a top plate to guide the punches.

I make piloted punches for it. To use it, I punch or drill the hole that slips over my pivot bushing thru the washer material, then move the hole under whatever size I need the OD to be, and hit the piloted punch with a hammer, forcing the punch and washer thru the die.

This makes very clean washers.

I've made or trimmed lots of washers with a plain old pair of scissors too.

Washers for a linerlock or framelock need to be two different sizes on the OD, with the smaller one on the lock side so it doesn't interfere with the lock, so I often trim the smaller size with scissors.

When I make bronze washers I hammer them flat on an anvil.

Thanks, frank. I had a frustrating day yesterday, too. One of those days when it's best to just stop what you're doing and begin again another day.

Just 9 more days to go, everyone.

Remember to send me small 72dpi .jpg images of your knives for the web page.

Exclamation

Time's a'waistin', guys!

You only have 6 more days to get your barlows finished, post pictures, and email me pictures so I can put all the photos up on the web site.

Please make sure you send photos that are no larger than 50 MB at 72dpi. I'm on dialup.

Brian, Andy, Bill, everyone, not much time left.
