Recent bowie knife

Hi guys...I am new here...not sure how I missed this forum but glad to have found it now.

Here is my recent bowie. (4th or 5th knife overall)
Alabama damascus blade and fittings with a dymonwood Cocobola handle.

I thought I was real clever soldering a nut to the backside of the buttplate until I got a K&G catalog and discovered this is common procedure...oh well.

Comments welcome!

Well you just came out firing with both barrels, didn't you? That's a great looking bowie. Nice job.

Will you be coming to the Ga. Knifemaker's Guild meeting on Feb. 7? The more the merrier...

And welcome to the forums!

(And tell Awesome Bill I said hello next time you're down at the pool hall... )

Check out the Georgia Knifemaker's Guild Forum here on the CKD: http://www.ckdforums.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=59

I'll post the email that I got from Mrs. Joan Poythress about the meeting on the forum there. It's in Macon.

Sweet! Cocobola has always been one of my favorite woods. The file work on the guard adds a nice touch.

That is a sweet piece. Interesting choice of dymondwood but its obvious from the pics that the cocobolo version is a winner - it looks the part and doesn't at all seem out of place on a damascus bowie ! Jason.

Welcome Brucep from still another Georgia Dawg. Dawsonville is just up the road from Jay H. and me. Very nice knife indeed!

Also want to repeat Jamie's invite to the GA Guild meeting. Sure, Macon is quite a ways for you, but it is pretty centrally located for the state. We have folks coming all the way up from Savannah. too. If you can't make this one but are still interested, drop Mrs. Joan an email and she will put you on an information/contact list to keep you informed and up to date. We are just getting started as a Guild and are still in the formative stages (a good time to get your thoughts considered). We hope to leave this meeting with all the wheels on and the motor running.

If it's just the distance, meet me here in Acworth early and I'll get you to Macon and back. Email me if interested through PM on this forum and we'll work out a hookup. Maybe we can talk Jay into driving and make it a road trip!

Anway, nice to have you on board (with such fine edged steel work). Hope to see more.

Thanks a lot guys.

I'd be interested in at least getting on a mailing list for the guild or what-not. Can't make the meeting though, got a rifle match that day. I'll see if I can find Mrs. Joans email.

bruce,

sweet looking knife. What kind of rifle do you shoot? I used to shoot three position smallbore in college and air rifle.

Take care

Ross

I spend entirely too many Saturdays at the range. Currently I shoot:

-Action pistol (also an RO for this)
-Action rifle (It'll be a three-gun affair this weekend)
-100 reduced highpower matches (ARs mostly...one of my FALs if I am feeling spunky)
-across-the-course highpower (ARs, just got my reloads tuned for 300 and 600 yards)
-Skeet for fun on Friday nights in the summer

The wife and I both shoot in most of this, and that makes it all the more fun!
