There are so many different steels that fill a range of head spinning categories. I go back forth on the 440-C, ATS-34 and 154 CM discussions as these share similarities. Throw in BG42, RWL34 that broadens the choices as well. I've not used AEB-L before. That may be one to try and get some experience with.
The progression of steels keeps the treadmill going. One of those nothing was really wrong to begin with, yet makers and users wanted that little bit more. Some of that drive is interesting and that is progress. Those little changes to make them different and supposedly "better". __________________ Mike |

>One of the local guys has a forge and we d## a 1095 and 1085 combination for my first forging experience. Ran out of time so it still needs more work though looking forward to making a knife with that first forged piece. Had a fun time doing this.<
Tossing in some 15N20 will give you more contrast when you etch and finish. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

Being new to the forging process, how would I add the 15N20 to the bar? Have a fold to do for the next round so looking forward to that session. Not sure when that will be though.
Thanks! __________________ Mike |
