One of my better knives.
I wanna start of by saying, I'm sorry I didn't get my knife sent in for the testing, I guess I'm a little rough on 1/8, I'm used to working on thicker steel. I ended up breaking a couple blades that were meant to be for the test.
In the mean time I got some 1084 from Aldo and started a new knife, I'm pretty happy with it. I consider this my best so far. I hear practice makes perfect, I'm still practicing. Here it is. |

That's a very nice looking knife!
As for the testing, that will remain open 24/7 until I get tired of doing it. So, make a blade according to the pattern supplied in the HT thread and send it in. Don't even bother to put a handle on it, just grind it to about 220 grit and sharpen it. No particular hurry but you need to get it done before the next KITH if you want to participate (and I hope you do, that would be a great knife for a KITH).... |

Very nice. I love the blade shape. The only thing I would suggest is refining the handle contours a little more, but that's just me. I would be pleased if mine came out like this one.

I really like the blade shape also, and the finish turned out great. I'm not a big fan of mirror polish because I look at knives as a tool to be used, not just looked at. I would also suggest contouring the handle a bit more, looks kind of blocky, but if the shape fits your hand and works well, then that's good enough.

I reshaped the handle, does it look better? I was worried doing it but I do think it looks better. It sure fits my hand better.

It does look a little better, but the main thing I notice is the big curve in the back really flattens out in the middle. Also the front finger groove could be a little more pronounced. The peak it creates kind of just looks like a little bump. I wouldn't sweat it or mess with it any more especially if it's comfortable. It's great work. Just maybe experiment with these suggestions with the next one to see if it might be at least as comfortable and look a little better too. There is always room for improvement, but it would be a shame to ruin a very nice knife trying to perfect it after the fact.

What I don't like is how the pins aren't centered, oh well! It was fun to work on this one. I'll just have to make another one and use everything I learned on this one.
Thanks guys. |

And that is the way it works.

Agreed I do like the handle shape better, as far as the pins go, you can't change the placement at this point. But I'd rather have a knife that feels and works better than looks perfect and is impractical to use.
