uncle al's filing jig
i cheat. i use Uncle Al's filing jig both as a guide to make the plunge cut and to girnd the shoulder of the ricasso. Now I will wartn you that even the hardened steel of a filing jig can not swtand upto a grinding belt indefinatelt, but i have found the Uncle Al's jig stand up much better than the one from Sheffield. In additon, Uncle Al's has two side to the plate so you can trash one side and use the clean side for precision filing. i have found that i get pretty close using it with the grinder and have to do very little clean up. An expensive trick ($95) but hey....it works and as an untalented newbie, i need every advantage that i can get. lol. You can find the jig at the Riverside machine web site.
