First Neck-Knife...
Well.. I finally have something to show off! :-) My first finished neck knife (the prototype has reverted to the scrap pile after an ugly grinding error.... it helps if you engage your brain before grinding a bevel...ON THE WRONG EDGE...). Saw blade steel (L-6 most likely) 1/16" thick, Pink Ivory handle, brass pins. Tempered @ 375 for two hours. It's 3 3/4" overall. Areas where I know it's weak are; some scratches in the finish (contaminated buffs... new ones on my shopping list). Edge has more recurve than I planned.. leaned on it too much while grinding the bevels. Edge bevels don't QUITE match... more grinding practice in store for me. Any other criticisms welcome! Hey, if I wasn't trying to learn, I wouldn't post pictures! heh heh... The grey leather in the background may become the sheath.. I have a couple neodymium magnets to hold it in the sheath. Paul F. |

Hey, I don't mind the extra recurve at all! Looks like a good little user... Chris |

I'd say you're on your way!! The trouble with making knives is getting the hands to do exactly what the brain says!! Practice makes perfect, or gets us closer anyway! Keep the sparks flying! |
