Working with fossil walrus (oosic or rib)
I've seen a few folssil walrus-bone scaled knives that looked very attractive and am considering it for a current project. Since this is fossilized bone - not ivory, I wanted to ask about working it. Can it be worked like ivory? If it is stone-like I'll stay away from it, but if it's not hard to work with I'll give it a go. Any difference between working oosic (penile bone) and rib bone, or is the composition the same? Thanks!

I like oosic. It works easily, not like stone at all. It's not "petrified", if that's what you need to know.

Thank's Mike! That's exactly what I was wondering. I think I'll give a piece of rib bone a try.
