Question about Bowie

Was asked to put new handles on this knife. Made by Soligen, Germany. Stamped on one side; F.A Bower Imp. Co. Stamped on other side; JIM BOWIE KNIFE-78H. Will putting new handles on decrease value if any?
Thanks-
Randy

Not familiar with "Bower"or how rare the name might be. Most of those type and the ones that say "Original Bowie Knife" were contract blades ordered by firms in the U.S. and sold with their name stamped on it. They are a dime a dozen but can go for around a hundred on ebay to people that don't know any better. I think the scales are worth more than the knife really. As always, take my word with a grain of salt.

Original Bowie knife

Hey guys I have a Bowie knife that I don't know anything about. On the right side it says "original Bowie knife" and near the hand guard it's stamped with 78H. On the handle it has eng, infinity symbol or a sideways 8. I will post some pictures of the knife. I'm hoping to find more about it thanks.

Wow. Just in time for Halloween, the dead rise!

For those newer folks, "hammerdownnow" was an active member that was really great about responding to questions on old knives and such. Amazing sense of humor and nice guy. Was. He died several years back, very suddenly.

LiquidMetal93, the advice hammerdownnow gave to the guy who started this thread applies to you knife as well. Anytime you see something like "original Bowie knife" on the blade, you know it's a commercial made knife that probably has little serious value. A lot of times companies like Sears would contract for a manufacturer to make a bunch of these to sell in their sporting goods departments.
