What to do with a KA-BAR?

Before Dad passed away, he gave me a box of stuff, and in it were three knives ... a KA-BAR MK2, a Schrade Pilots Knife, and my brothers Imperial Scout knife. My brother will get his back, and perhaps the Schrade as well, but the KA-BAR is mine! So what to do about it?

It's in pretty good shape, I guess, and seems all original. There's a little nick in the blade. I've seen some really pretty versions, some look mint ... is that something I want to do? I mess with guitars a bit, and the key word for vintage stuff is, "Don't mess with it!" Dirt, grime, dings and scratches are "character." I'm new to knives, and here in Japan, few folks appreciate them except chefs and a small community of samurai/military buffs. Whatever I do to this will be for me, and eventually, my kids ... who will have to draw lots for my stuff.

So, please give me some advice ...

Thanks, Randy
