ITW: Pipe Hawk - A UBF Collaboration

I know a lot of you find these "In the Works" posts interesting and hawks right now seem to be a "hot" topic so here goes......
Mark Williams of Williams Forge and I are doing this as a UBF collaboration piece. Mark sent me this pipehawk head and handle a while back and I just got it hafted. The handle is tigerstripe/curly maple which was "stained" using the traditional 18th/19th century Aqua Fortis reagent method and is the process of being finished with a traditional homemade linseed oil/varnish formula ala expert Eric Kettenburg. It has a brass mouth piece and the brass sheet in the picture is intended for an end cap and a collar just below the head. The rest of the items shown will be used as decoration on the haft......What will those be? Well ya'll will just have to check back and see Progress reports will be forthcoming
The head was hand forged by Mark from one piece, including the bowl. Steel is 5160. It has been decorated with period style filework and was then etched to give it an aged patina.
Submitted for your comments....

Man what a good job forging the head Mark! Really nice shape. That stain looks like you could reach down into it on the haft too. This is going to be great to watch. Thanks guys!

That is just about the nicest hawk I've seen. Mark has really got it right on the forging. The package so far is really top notch!
Chuck, thanks for sharing the progression on this one. It's projects like this that keep me coming back for more.
