Cap Hayes / Travis Daniel (TED) sharpfinger sheath
Travis asked me to put this over here, I guess he thought the gallery was a more appropriate place to show off sheath pics or something
This was one that Trav helped me with, he made it look good and did all of the hard stuff, I just tried to do what he told me to without too much complaining The sheath was dyed with cordovan dye and lightly antiqued after. This gave it a really nice character and helped highlight some of the red in the liners. It's a basket weave stitch to give it just a bit more character, I thought that went nicely with the fileworked screws. The knife is 1084, cold blued with stabilized giraffe bone w/ red liners and fileworked brass screws. We were both real happy with the way this one came out, I wish the pics did it more justice. Please let us know what you think. __________________ Cap Hayes See my knives @ knives.caphayes.com This quote pains me: -- "Strategically placed blood grooves control blood spray in covert deanimation activities." -- |

Nice set! I like the snap arrangement. I'll have to remember that for one of mine.

Thanks for the words guys, nobody took this one from me at Blade, so I might just keep it. Of course, if I did that with every one...

Cap it is hard to believe that, that one was not snatched up. The whole package just looks good and fits together so well.

Can you show or tell how you did the stitch? I've seen it several times but have never been able to find out how it is done.
Thanks Steve Hostetler |

Hi Dave - thanks for the kind words. It was good to see you up there too.
Steve - here's the reply I put in my other thread, let me know if it's not clear enough, maybe we can get a shot or two of how to do it. "Hi Wade, the basket weave stitch is pretty simple to do, it only has that affect on one side. It's stitched such that you skip one hole and leave a loop of sinew and then stitch back through the middle hole and through the loop, laying the next stitch over the previous. We continued this all the way to the tip of the sheath, finished the stitch and then started again on the other side. Depending on which way you thread through your loop, your stitch will fall to one direction or the other. I hope that makes sense and helps you figure it out. Maybe someone can explain it better than me, this was my first one!" __________________ Cap Hayes See my knives @ knives.caphayes.com This quote pains me: -- "Strategically placed blood grooves control blood spray in covert deanimation activities." -- |
