Want to slow down my KMG
Guys,
I have KMG setup with pulleys. and want to slow it down. It seems too fast even on slowest setting. Can anyone tell me what kind of pulleys I should be looking for (type, size etc.) ? Call Rob, he'll talk you through it in 2 minutes and he will have what you need or tell you where to get it. You probably got a 2" drive pully, try putting a 1 1/2" on, that should slow things down 25%. Most any farm type supply store will have one for $5.

If you make it 2X bigger ..the grinder will run 1/2X slower. Get rid of the step pulley on the grinder and replace it with a 2" and a 8" single groove pulley. Mount them side by sideon the shaft with the 8" pulley on the outside so that it will over hang the base plate of the grinder. Remount the motor on a hinged plate so you can readjust the belt tension for different positions. It will be a big step going from high speed to low speed. The 8" pulley on the grinder will need clearance under it so it won't hit your bench top. I would be suprised if you find it better to use 2 different drive belt lengths. For high speed ..put the belt in the 4" groove on the motor and the 2" pulley on the drive shaft of the grinder. For low speed, fit the belt over the small 2" groove on the motor and the big honking 8" pulley on the grinder drive shaft. I've never done this...but can't imagine any problem other than inconvinence to chance speeds and the need to make clearnce for the 8" pulley to clear the work bench. Keep me posted on your progress if you go this route. -Rob |
