Kydex belt loop-clip thickness?
For my smaller pieces what would your suggestions be as a common thickness to use? I'm considering the .060".
Not sure if I want to folder over the flap or fasten the clip portion. Thoughts? __________________ Mike ![]() ![]() |

I am terrible at making kydex sheaths but I can make beltloops quite well. I always use thicker .93 even for smaller knives, I just don't like the flex of thinner .60. I made a form out of g10 in 1/4" x 2" that works perfect.

I agree with what BladeHandler said. You can use .080 also, but .093 is best for loops.

Just to be contrary, I only use 8 oz leather, but for small pocket knives I'll use 6 oz leather. For reference one square foot of leather at 1/64th inch thick (.016) weighs one ounce, so 8 oz is 1/8th inch thick.

I wouldn't say that's contrary, it's a different material and equally as good for most applications so I'd say viable input.

I do prefer leather since it a medium I have more working time with. I desire to improve my ability building them too. Some really well crafted sheaths from makers that inspire me to do more than some basic ones.
The thickness of thermo plastic is a nice part but the plastic in itself does have issues in use that leather doesn't and so forth between them. Tough to decide for certain uses. For the knife in mind a leather sheath comes out to be in the 1.5" overall thickness where the plastic sheath variant is about .50" less thickness. __________________ Mike ![]() ![]() |

Holster Makers
![]() Have good communication using free samples! Students really like to gather a collection of knives, so they study a lot to find out more information about history of each knife! I think it's really cool! Last edited by Landy; 11-28-2019 at 06:24 AM. |

I wound up going with an off the shelf loop. I'll eventually make a fixture to form them. For now this allowed me to experiment. I wanted this to fit into the coin/pocket watch pocket on the Levis while being stabilized on the waist/belt. Works ok as the off set torques the sheath a bit that does not allow as smooth a draw. Some refining to do.
