California Buckeye Burl
I bought some stabilised wood a while ago and when I first looked at it I wasn't sure weather I liked it or not. The high gloss finish made me think of plastic, it also looked like it had been dyed so I put it away and left it for a while. Until I made this drop point and I wanted a satin finish to the blade and the handle so I thought I would try the stabilised stuff.
It's stabilised California Buckeye Burl with bright red fibre liners (0.8mm). The steel is EN9 4.25mm thick with a distal taper and has been flat ground with a satin finish. OAL is 223mm or 8 3/4 inches. The blade is 107mm or 4 1/4 inches with a big Ricasso area because of the distal taper. Hardened and differentially tempered with aluminium pins and lanyard tube. Thanks for looking, all comments welcome. __________________ Gold is for the mistress - silver for the maid - Copper for the craftsman cunning in his trade. Thanks Shane, I must admit, the more I look at this one the more I like it. I was unsure at first but it's definitely growing on me.
I think I will be buying some more of this. __________________ Gold is for the mistress - silver for the maid - Copper for the craftsman cunning in his trade. "Good!" said the Baron, sitting in his hall But iron - cold iron is master of them all. Rudyard Kipling (1865 - 1936) |
