Buckeye Burl help

I'm looking for the best way to finish Buckeye. Right now I'm mixing epoxy with buckeye dust and packing it into the holes. What do I need to do to make this stuff really shine?

Unless it's been stabilized, I don't consider buckeye burl suitable for knife handles. No matter what you do with/to it, it's going to contain voids, and be soft in some spots, "punky" in others, and will cause you more frustration than anything.

Some will say that there are a number of things you can do to "make it work", but I'm not one of them....when it comes to natural burls, once you've used them stabilized, nothing else will do.

Since I live in CA. I am able to get good prices on CA. Buckeye burl and use a lot of it. I have to agree with Ed and only use it after it has been stabilized. There is several good companys that do a excellant job of stabilizing your wood. I do not reccommend home brew stabilization, use the commercial companies that know how to do it right. Two off the top of my head are River Ridge and WSSI.
In fact I have all my wood stabilized except Coco Bolo, desert ironwood, black & tan Ebony as they have such a oil content that they are hard to stabilize or do not need it.
