Scored today.

Saw an add in the classifieds here, but read it too late and missed a 25lb Little Giant in excellent condition for $950. That really bummed me out.

For the good news, I drove up to the guys place to look at the anvil and post vice he had. Well worth the 90mile drive. I got to meet a maker named Bud Tracey that is getting out of forging and moving more towards stock removal. Very nice guy, makes some great looking blades.

Anyway, I got a Peter Wright anvil in excellent condition

A post vise in excellent condition

He gave me a pile of books/magazines that I need to go through, but have already seen a few that I wanted

And I got a 2hp mill with about $3-500 worth of accessories

If you look at the pictures you can see the steel that I also got, a bunch of O-1, 1065, 5160, and 1018. I also got some nice maple burl and ironwood (about 3/4 of a 1ft long log).

Just wish I would have seen the add a little quicker, then I would be showing a picture of a Little Giant too, but alas, it left the knife world to go to a gate maker.

Ed,

I will put her to use. @ $3/lb I had to drive up and see her, I think Bud was glad it was going to a bladesmith and not someone who wanted a lawn ornament. The edges are sharp and the face is flat, couldn't ask for more.

Mike, the score cost a lot less than it should have, but I gave him what he asked and didn't try and negotiate it, I was getting a deal and he was getting what he wanted, so we both walked away happy. That's the kind of deals I like.

I can see some integrals in the future, don't know what else to do with a lot of 5/8" O-1 (thick stuff under the anvil).

Craig,

Didn't know anyone else was this close. We'll have to touch bases sometime.

Mike, It's a small one, 140lbs, but it is a huge step up from the 110 lb Harbor Frieght cast steel anvil I am using now. Been on the lookout for anvils, got lucky. Still looking to find a 300-500 lb one somewhere, got to keep watching the farm auctions.

Actually found in the pile of magazines the 10th anniverary Blade from 81, and the first knives annual. Pretty good pile of books overall.

Carl

I would be intrested in buying/trading for some of that O-1 if you want to part with some of it. Id rather buy it from someone on the forum than a steel company. If you are intrested, drop me an email.

Glad to see you made such a good haul! Now lets see some knives!!

God Bless
Mike

hey I looked at that hammer too. Too bad that you missed it. By the time that I read about it I was shure that it would be gone so I didn't even call. I wish that I would have now.

He put the add in last Friday, and I saw it Monday night. Was gone by then. What really got me was I drove up through McCall on Saturday, and if I would have seen the add I could have been there.

Bud is moving down to Boise, hopefully he will be around, and not get to far out of the knifemaking. He really did good work, and said that he traveled down to Bill Moran's shop to learn when he was just starting.
