What will it cost me ?
What will it cost me for a leather sewing machine that work all the time every time. I have a Tippmann Boss which is tempermental. I never have been able to get it to work on every stich every time I use it. I only make sheaths when I have to so maybe 30 a year and I have neither the time nor the inclination to spend a bunch of time fine tuning the Tippmann everytime I have to use it. Now from what I have heard if you are mechanically inclined and know how to talk to machines then these are wonderful companions but for those of us who are the "turn it on and it better work" type, maybe not so great. SO back to my question, what do you recommend for a leather sewing amchine that will work evey time all the time.

For grins I looked over on Leatherworker.net at a long thread on leather sewing machines. The "simple" ones they recommended were all in the $1200 - $2000 price range.
I don't claim to know much of anything about sewing machines, but the few times I've seen a Tippman operating, it seemed pretty simple and reliable. Maybe yours needs a tune-up from somebody really familiar with the mechanism. Of course, the cheapest solution is two needles and an awl, but only a real smart-alec would point that out! __________________ God bless Texas! Now let's secede!! |

A few of the knifemakers and leatherworkers I know switched to Artisians. They really love them and do fine work. Dad (Sandy M.) has one that really sees some serious action. Scott Davidson also has one and is knocking out his sheaths quickly and cleanly. Can probably google the price on the Artisian.
I personally like my Tipper, we have an understanding. Beats the heck out of hand stitching. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |
