Pivot pin sizes - opinions please

I have been using the 1/8" barrel type pins. Knowing the strengths of SS, especially in that shape I have no doubt about it being stout enough even for a big blade. Now I'm wondering what size pivot pins you guys use and why? Is it for a larger diameter screw or ??? Thanks for feedback guys (and gals too Audra - grin)

Hello, POB.

I use 3/16" pivot pins on blades larger than around 2 1/2" long. For the smaller blades I use !/8 pins.

The way I make my folders, the washers have to slip over the pivot pin bushing, so on a smaller blade there simply isn't enough room for a washer with a 1/4" hole through it, which is required for a 3/16" pin.

Like Don, I use 1/8th pivots for the small knives with about 2" or less blade length. The majority of my knives have 3" - 4" blades and they get 7/32" pivots. I make one big ugly folder that uses a hardened 1/2" barrel pivot. The small pivots are very strong, but the bigger pivots are stronger and they have larger screws (which I like)....
