Old arabian dagger

Hi.

I have a question about a dagger, i would like to knew if this knife is some replica, is there any meaning for the illustrations, who or why it has been made and how old it could be. I have some information about the text on the dagger too. It has been bought from Tunis.

"The knife was given by Janabe Abbas to Imam Hasan Alaye Salam
during the battle with yazid and it says Allah hafiz."

I do not belive that this could be the same knife, then it should be very old.

So hard to say. So many tourist knives of this pattern have been sold, a real expert on them would have to be consulted. Don't quote me, but, the kris style blade has me thinking fantasy knife. I am usually dead wrong, so it could be a real one. Not much help I know.

This link may be of help if it seems to be worth having it looked at.

Yes, it is quite hard to say anything about it. But i have forget to say that the blade is forged damascus whith quite coarse surface finish and all illustrations are made with silver.
Blade has not been etched to take out the damascus pattern, but it is seeable whit eye. the guy who saled it sayd that it could be some 100 - 150 years old but he was not sure, it was not bought from street market, igot it from an antique shop. Could somebody say how much can it be worth.

I have inserted some more pictures too.

Thanks, Roc! Usually with these ethnic knives I go first to Therion Arms, but their listings seem reduced of late. I searched on "Horsehead knife" then "Horsehead dagger" and got to the khandjar style. One last google for "horsehead khandjhar" got me that link. I love old knives from that part of the world.

Interesting piece. I wonder whether it is folded steel or wootz, can't tell enough from the foto.

The only thing that doesn't quite fit is that my "example" says "Indian" while I wonder what the script on the knife in question is.

Nice knife ok1; thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks to you guys

Text on the blade is for two names, Janabe Abbas and Imam Hasan Alaye Salam and text on sheath says Allah hafiz = May allah protect you. the guy who told me that told me one story about those names:

"The knife was given by Janabe Abbas to Imam Hasan Alaye Salam
during the battle with yazid and it says Allah hafiz".

And i made some close up pictures from the blade steel:

Can't really tell but I know I have sa many knives like this one for sale in the the Green Zone when I last had to renew an ID card. Cant really tell from your pictures much about the blade where it goes inside the handle. The shop keepers there tell me that most of the blades either come from Afghanistan or Pakistan I dont remember which. What I remembered about their knives were that they had a very thick cutting edge and not well made. They also had scimitars for sale made very similar to the construction of your knife. They also had elephant tusks selling for $100 Pper foot whole. Just my two cents and undersand I am just a hobbyist who happens to work n Iraq and by no means an expert in this subject.
