Experiment, something new

After getting some folks sending pics for doing carving , I find that some of them actually most of them are too small to get any real detail when done on something the size of a small sheath or riflesling. Also colors are an issue with only dyes and acrylics to use, and they both have thier limitations. So my wife Linda and I talked and she came up with a way to laminate a digital image to some thin leather and I could use that for an inlay. We did some testing on a piece of scrap and flexibility and durability seem very good. The next step was a few sheaths to get some reactions.I don't intend to give up traditional carving but use this as an option for some pieces. Here's a few, let me know what you think.Dave

If you had described it, I don't think I would have liked it. But seeing how they turned out, it's pretty cool!

Looks really good, I think you may be on to something. I have heard of doing that to T-shirts and things but have never thought of doing that ot leather. When I saw your pics it was more of #### why didn't I think of that, but then that is way of really good ideas.

Dave, aren't you the lucky man to have Linda around? I do have the brightest kids!!!! I really think that this type of embellishment will find a market. It will certainly accept greater detail than carving. Good luck to you, my friend.

I wouldn't think that you would have much trouble selling those at all Dave. The Ace of Spades is ok and got my attention first, but I had to look at the other skull a second time to realize what it is and that is when it hit me. Great job!

I'm flabbergasted !! Way to go Linda
Reminds me of what MJF said in Back to the Future "The kids are gonna love it" Quick, get the concept patented.
Totally open to personalization too -- "Send me your favorite picture, make it part of your totally customized sheath".

Mike
