Thanks for the info Andy & Chuck,
I figured it was probly for 2009 blade show. I would be glad to stop by your table. It would be nice to meet a few guys in person. I also will have a table but I didn't have them send me any VIP's. Guess I didn't know who I would give them to. Well I will look for you there. Thanks, Shane

Very neat thread. You know Boker is making damascus folders made with salvagedsteel from the battleship Tirpitz and selling them for some long green. I think that a knife made from one of the 16 inch shells from the Missouri would be a nice counter. Only because you probably couldn't find steel from the casing of a Blockbuster bomb like the ones used to sink Tirpitz

Thanks for the comments guys. I think about a half pound of Ivory should handle it well.

Just an update for those following this project. As slow as its going I'm not going to speed things up any. This blade is in my hands now. Guys Chuck really did an awsome job on this the pics don't even come close. 9" of pure art. Chuck put the bar way up there.

Andy,

If I make it to Atlanta this year, I'll bring along my near mint condition Arisaka rifle. If you are finished with that beauty by then, bring it along and have it photographed there with the Arisaka as a prop. I think that would be appropriate for this blade, given it's history.

I know this is taking alot of time to finish. I know why Chuck took the time he did to start this project. If you don't start you can't mess up. When useing material that cannot be replaced messing up is a very big deal. Well I got some balls and got started. Here's where we're at now.
Step by step, the materials, making the guard cutting the handle, making the ferrell, and the first mach up assembly.
Materials

Grinding shell piece flat

Drilling slot for blade

Fileing slot to fit blade

Blade fitted

Man, that's a fantastic piece of history you've got right there. It's an incredible idea.
Good luck with the auction. Wish I had the $$ to make it mine.
