I can't recall this ever happening in a KITH I was involved in.

From a completely logical standpoint, the knife is the property of the sender until it is recieved, since they are the one who is compensated by shipping insurance should it get lost.

I pray you had shipping insurance as no knife should ever be shipped without it!

So, the sender should contact USPS and make a claim. When you get the money, you should use it to meet your obligation to the recipient of your knife in a way agreeable to both of you. Making another knife is one way, but not always possible. Keeping the money and forwarding the knife you received is another way. Even forwarding the insurance money is an option, if an undesirable one (to me anyway).

I'd start with calling the USPS claims office. If the knife was not insured, your options are limited to forwarding the knife you received or some other mutually agreeable arangement.\

This is the way I see it, but Alan is the authority and opinions are welcome. The key to resolution will be patience.

Hey Kurt
Got the knife. Very nice. Great hamon on the blade and really nice handle material. That is stabilized giraffe bone right? I welcome addition to my collection.

Excellent! I'm glad it got there okay.

It's giraffe alright. I thought it was camel, but then I went and looked back at my emails because something didn't seem quite right about it being camel - the color was all wrong. I had to look back a number of years - 3 or 4 in fact. I finally turned up the right answer.

I'm glad you like it. One thing I've found is that, over time, the hamon actually intensifies and gains some color. I'm not exactly sure why that is, but it must have something to do with my finishing process. Enjoy!

Well, unfortunately I couldn't finish the EDC, but at least I can offer you to see a sort of tutorial in knife making:
