Very nice. You nailed the "frontier" look on that one. How do you heat treat your 52100? Thanks for posting that.

This blade was heat at 1562º and quenching in cow grease (yes you read well), them was terperd about one hour at 572º. For this process I uses a gas forge, and to measure the temperatures I use an element of high technology.... my eye
Thanks Saludos Mariano Last edited by mariano gugliot; 09-20-2006 at 06:02 AM. |

Thanks. Do you find the 52100 hard to forge at all? How does it compare to 5160?

Yes, the 52100 is hard to forge!, and is necessary to have well-taken care of to forge it.
52100 compared with the 5160 have more edge retention and oxidizes a little less than the 5160, but it does not have the tenacious of the 5160. For a camp knife or a bush knife it seems to me that the 5160 is better. But as always each one has its preferences. Saludos Mariano |
