Clips for leatherwork
I FINALLY found a good US MADE belt clip for holsters and such. I have used the type on the right and rivet it down but how do you mount the other one to the project ?
thank you Dave www.baldcowboy.com\images\clip.jpg |

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe you punch a 7/8" or 1" slot with a bag punch to accomodate that ridge on the bottom. When assembled that ridge coming through the slot is the only part of the back of the clip that is on top of the leather.

Dave; Re: my previous post. The back side of the clip is sandwiched between two layers of leather with barge and stitching so yes, it's secure and not going any where.

His has a hole in it I believe. I have used those before just not the ones with no holes to rivet to.

I have used both styles on a combo sheath that is used for fishing. They get a tremendous amount of abuse from the owners, judging from ones I have seen that were a few years old. Neither type has had a problem when sandwitched between two glued layers of leather and stiched up the sides, but if I had to pick one I would choose the one with the rivet hole.
More important in my opinion than the method of attachment is the amount of tension in the spring and how much force it takes to "spring" the clip. Once the clip is sprung the sheath is useless and the clips are a royal pain to replace. |

I agree. I have made a few cellphone holsters and I have had one or two catch on something and bend the clip. Its toast once that happens.Time for a new holster if you cant get the clip out easily.
