Do you mean this one?
The spacer material is copper and black fiber spacers with patina, and the handle is African Blackwood. __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." |

Awsome, as usual!
There's not one in the list that doesn't zing me . Those laminates are so cool. That is going to be your
distinguishing trademark, Ed. I also really like that 52100 blade with the checkering on the spine. It's my favorite of the carbon steel blades. You should do very well, my friend. Wish I could have been there. Dana |

"ditto"
I think Dana hit the nail on the head with the laminate being a trademark. I really like the texturing on that blade. Real nice work Ed and good luck at the show.

Beautiful work. I have always admired your work. I have a total newbie question. On the handle, like the one above, you have fine sanded wood and a pitting of some sort. How do you do that? Is it sanded blasted?
Thanks, David |

Ed, Great lineup. I always look forward to seeing your preview's. Ah I almost forgot I will get to see them in person. That folder is over the top. I know you have put alot of heart into that one.
See you next week Pal __________________ Bruce Bingenheimer MLazyB Custom Knives ABS Journeyman Smith |

Thanks Guys!
Bing: Looking forward to dinner with you on Friday evening! David: All of that texturing was done with a small rotary air tool. The model I have is a GRS 850. It's a lot like a dental drill/tool, that uses 1/16" shanked burrs, and turns at 400,000 rpm. I first draw out the area I want to work on with a "grease pencil", then cut the outline and the depth I want. Each of the individual divot are a single touch with a very small round carbide burr. Just the texturing on that handle represents about 2 1/2 hours of work under a lighted magnifier. A long time ago, JD Smith (another ABS Mastersmith) said something to me that has stuck ever since....most of the time a knife is just color and shape....why not add texture to give it an additional dimension? That's where the idea originated for the carving/texturing I do on a lot of my knives. __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." |
