TNS Gambler
This is a Texas Knifemaker's Supply "Gambler'. Also sold as "Lynx" through Jantz Supply.
7.25" OAL 2.75" 440c hollow grind blade with 1" false edge grind at point. I ordered three of these: one to build for my wife, one for my father in law, and of course one for my collection. This is the first of three (wife specs). Scales: Mother of pearl composite (Jantz supply) Spacer: White vulcanized spacer Liner: Brass fileworked on outside, white epoxy filled when attaching scales. Of all the TKS kits, I would have to say this is the nicest one yet. Look back in a few days for the next one. Thanks for looking! Mike |

Nice work again. I assume that the kit is of good quality. Have you ever thought of selling your mosaic pins?

Yes, it feels great in the hand, smoooth.
It slices great. The hollow grind blade is not something I have seen in folder kits, besides the Knifekits AALB. The blade has a very hard temper, up in the 58rc range by my esitmate. My files had a tough time, and they are relatively new. I dont plan to make and sell any pins. I make them 1"-2" at a time. I would be glad to tell you how I did it, though. The tough part is going to local hobby shop and spending time fitting stock tubes and rods together (helps to be on good terms with owner) Do a search in the forums for mosaic pins.....Jantz (paper catalog) has great descriptions of their pins and what size stock went into each. They sell pin and tube stock so you can build your own as well. The best method for color that i have found is using a 2 part epoxy with one or two drops of caft store acrylic paint (apple crate brand, 88cents). Oh man, wait till you see what I did to the #2 kit......hint: lots of liner to carve! Mike |
