Great job, I really enjoyed following along.
I have never done a slip joint let alone one with out liners.
2 questions what material are your washers made of and what size pins did you use 1/8" ?

Thanks guys!

Don - I think you might be right. I'm already planning my next folder.

John - I made the washers out of some .010" bronze I had laying around, then I sanded them down to about .007". I either need a big bag of ready-made washers, or I need a punch set and some .004" bronze stock. The way I did it was way too time consuming. And yes, 1/8" pins. I have a ready stock of 1/8" for other stuff, so I decided to use it here even though I seem to recall most folks using 3/32".

Very nice job. I'm happy to see that a slip joint can be made without any special tools or machinery. Very inspiring.

Absolutely no special tools required outside of the normal stuff for fixed blades. Some tools make things go quicker, like my granite machinists plate, but they're not strictly required to make one of these. About the most critical tool in the workshop was my drill press - without it I'm pretty sure that I never would have gotten the holes lined up. And pony clamps.

One thing I did use, that was actually as close as the local mom-n-pop hardware store, was a tapered pin reamer. I used it to put a 1-degree taper in the handle holes so that when I peened the pins in, there would be a positive lock on the material. Other than that, everything was pretty normal workshop tools.

Kurt, you did a really good job on the WIP. The outcome shows that you put a lot of thought, and work into it. It really looks good. Thanks for sharing the WIP.

Inspired by Pipecrafter's great tutorial , I decided to proceed with my 1st ever slipjoint . I just followed his instructions & even surprised myself ! It is a G-10 no-liner with ATS-34 blade & spring , using the pattern pictured on the tutorial. I used washers on blade. Thanks , Pipecrafter !

P.S. I'm a Southpaw. The logo & nail nick are on the wrong side intentionaly.

OK, Im not a slip joint fan normally but I think I am inspired. Seems pretty easy and I know my Dad would use it. I have 1/8 G10 and I think some 1/8 SS pins.I have some 1/16th 01 steel too.I may try the no washer version. Jig is just made from the spring template I take it ? I am reading over Chris Crawfords tutorial now.

THANKS !!!!

Dave

Does switching to 1/8th 01 for both parts change anything ? I have lots of it.

Already had my first hang up. 1/16th annealed 01 bends pretty easy. Pins were old brass and must have been a tiny bit over sized. Taped on the spline to get it in jig and it bent Oh well. May move up to 1/8. Brass pins ok ? I dont have any 1/8 NS.

Brass should work fine, Dave. And I don't think that switching to 1/8" O1 will drastically change things. You might need to thin out the spring near the pin to loosen up the action, but other than that it should work fine.
