Thumbs up I done went and done it!!

Here's the 2 blade American pattern Trapper I told you I was building.

Actually, this is the second one. The prototype came out OK mechanically but lacked a little in appearance so I gave it to a friend.

I've been intrigued with Bill Ruple, Don Morrow and Rusty Preston's trappers and with a little help from them ( thank you, my friends) I've figured out how to make these.

I started with a CAD design using a photo in a magazine as a model and the design is now proven so I'll make it available on my Knifemakers Supply web site if anyone is interested.

Having the detailed design is one thing, having the know how to make it all work is another thing, so it ain't for newbies or the faint of heart.

Very nice! Not only looks nice, but the broad middle gives the handle a better feel.

Looking good Don!

Didn't see it on your site yet, how much? I guess I'll have to put this in my knowledge base as well.

Hi, bill. I'll probably keep this one. I may build a single blade model with the clip blade only, then when I get to it I'll make another like this with filework.

Yes, I'll put it up on the website soon. I want to build another one just to be sure everything's OK first.

Thanks for the compliment Frank.

They're a pain to build as you know, because every dimension on both blade tangs has to match, along with having the spines of the blades parallel when open. A little more practice and I'll be able to build a really nice one.

I have 3 friends, Bill Ruple, Don Morrow and Rusty Preston who specialize in these. I admire their work so much I had to build one myself.

You know, I don't believe anyone else builds the variety of knives I do. I thought I had found a nitch with my barlows, but it's more fun and makes a better life for me just to keep learning and build what I like whenever I like. Not that I turn down reasonable orders.

Build one. i want to see it.

Lucky friend!

First off; Love it. Second, would be great to have the design available.

Ain't that the truth! I chose that pattern to do as my first scratch built folder..... :

Lets just say I didn't finish it. I'm working on a single bladed version of it. Its amazing how much precission there is in that one or two moving parts....

Don,

Did you cut the nail nick with a fly cutter or dovetail cutter?

I have problems making a nail nick with a fly cutter.
