Liner Lock Question

Why is titanium most often used for liner locks? I have seen stainless steel on knives. Is titanium better? If so, why? thanks!

Also does anyone know of a knife supply place in canada that carries folder supplies? Pivot pins, Ti, Nylatron washer ect.

Most makers use Ti for the liners for the following reasons.

1) Ti is lighter than stainless.
2) Ti doesn't have to be heat treated like stainless does (I assume this since I haven't used stainless)
3) Ti has a natural springiness which allows for easily (ok, sometimes it ain't easy) making the lock.
4) Ti can be anodized a wide variety of colors and stainless can't.
5) Ti tends to gall when in contact with steel. This helps make the lock-up more secure.

I wouldn't say that Ti is better. It is just more widely used.

I have used both Ti and stainless steel. I like the stainless better than the Ti. It cuts and taps better and the lock up is much better. You do not get any sticking or galling with stainless. I have been getting my stainless liner material from Jantz supply. It comes with a spring temper so you do not have to heat treat it. The only thing I like about Ti over stainless is that it can be anodized.
