8" bench grinder
ok i got a craftsman variable speed bench grinder this weekend and am wondering if i can put a 9" disc sander on one side of it to use for flattening and bevel grinding.
also i have seen attachments for belt grinder put on these machines and was wondering if that is good and if it will work. thanks |

if it has a 5/8 shape with key your good to go , look at the USA Knifemaker sight or Beaumont for flat and beveled disc

Just a note, but seems most prefer to have their disc set in the horizontal position. Seems a little easier to control getting flats true.
Also even though it is a Craftsman, most variable speed hard wheel grinders don't have all that much torque when slowed down, depending mostly on weight of the wheel and speed to get the work done. Adding a belt rig will reduce the torque even more. Will probably work ok for wood, but steel is a different animal. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

Yeah I think I am just going to leave it alone well use it for buffing. But I'm saving for a pheer grinder. They seem like good machines and are cheaper in comparison.

If you haven't already (probably already have), google and check out the review on the Pheer over on Blade Forums. Lot of good info there that might help you decide on options and variables concerning the grinder. Doesn't look too bad from all I have read so far, but never seen one up close and personal. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |
