Smile D 2 not D 3

just acquired some D3 that a friend of mine got from his work where they make make tools an some kind of dies ?? just wondering what steel would be a good laminate for damascus ? an what would be the heat treat an tempering for the D3 an ??

I would not use D3 for damascus, I have not looked it up but should be similar to D2 which means it is air hardening. D3 on it's own should make a fine knife.

I agree with Mike...not a good choice for making Damascus.

IM sorry my mistake the iron is D2 not D3 dont know what I was thinking to much going on with the move of the shop an everything ...same question but D2...

Same answer not good for damascus. Just make knives of it, it is great steel but requires a specific heat treat so if you do not have a heat treat oven you will have to send it out for heat treat.

thanks mike ..fixing to fire the forge up for the first time in the new shop today .got two custom crosses to make then its time to start making some blades again ..thanks again..
