"Tai Goo" inspired sheath

I made a brush chopper out of a snakehead push cultivator flat spring and decided to try a wooden sheath. The wood is from a shipping flat. No idea what kind it is. The leather top is sewn through the wood and has a open belt flap. It works great.
Comments are welcome.

Great job Mike! I love that wood you have on the handle. It looks like tiger stripped maple but with the stain I can't tell for certain. Your hamon has some great contrast and it shows up on the pic to. After wrestling with leather I always like to a do a wood sheath, we get along better. They start to get addictive.

That's really cool, Mike. Looks like it will be perfect for the job. I like the sheath. So how did you heat treat and polish to get that finish on the blade? Todd

Thanks for the kind words Guys. The blade was edge quenched in 135F canola oil and then polished to 800 grit. I etched it with a mixture of ferric chloride , vinegar and water.

That was the first anvil I had about 13 years ago except it was anchored to a butt cut of maple. It worked great (for awhile). The slight radius on them can help forge the edge real well.
