damascus leftovers
wonder'en what yall do with you left overs of your Damascus billets?
i posted a pic yesterday of a wrought and nick. smitty knife i made from left over material that i had from a cake server i made for my sis's wedd. today i forged and cleaned up to more one was cable and the other was a piece of cable that i drew out and then took a piece of 1085/15n20 Damascus and wrapped it around the cable and welded. they came out pretty neat. sometimes i save those pieces and add them into later billets, but i think this is a pretty neat way to use up some tiny pieces if ya just weld them together, the differing materials give some neat results. I'll post some pics in a bit if any one wants to see. |

Last fall I was playing with ideas as to what I might put in my public shop for the ladies to look at while the guys were checking out the knives and came up with an idea. I had several small scraps of damascus that were too small for guards and bolsters but could be cut into various shapes to adorn a silver chain for a ladies necklace. They proved to be popular and served duel purposes.
