"Ironic Conversion" forge
Ok, first there is nothing in the title that has anything to do with the functionality of the forge.
It's made from salvaged parts of my old forge and a new body from an old fire extinguisher. 1" Inswool and Satinite. Air is forced from the (some may remember) Assault Blower 5000 ammo can in the picture. I can close up the square hole in the back with a Satinite covered kiln brick and force more heat up to the front. I kept the top/handle and have attached an Inswool "Biscut" to the inside to form a front door. I just thought the title made sense. I mean, if piece a once proud fire fighting equipment, in death, becomes resurrected as a forge...... Will I come back as a Dust Mite? If my Didgeridoo is out of tune.....could I mess up someones chakkra? The Zen of chaos. Still suffering from crappy pic syndrome. __________________ Be mindful Practice kindness Last edited by Blaine Whitney; 11-17-2006 at 02:49 PM. |

Cool forge, Blaine. How well does it work for you? I'd like to make a gas forge soon. As an alternative to my charcoal one. Sometimes I run out of charcoal and don't have time to make any. Be nice to be able to just fire up the gas one at times like that. I think charcoal will always be my first love though. Todd

Nice new life for an old water fire extinguisher. The stainless steel makes a nice forge body.

Unlike Alanis that is ironic. What a really cool idea.

The pic was the first fire up. It got VERY hot. I'll need some real tongs now. It'll be Sunday before I can forge.
My last forge was a vertical that Tim Crocker gave me. It worked great, it was just tough to do anything small. I'd invariably drop it into the bottom of the forge and had to shut it off to retrieve it. Tim, dubbed it the "Ghetto Forge" but it served me well. I'll kinda miss it. Id like to think that part of it still lives on in this one.....sniff Kidding......I'm over it. __________________ Be mindful Practice kindness |

It looks like welding heat to me. Good size too. Much prettier than the Ghetto Forge was. But the GF sure made alot of blades. Glad to see some of it live on. I built the GF with minimal parts and pieces for about $50.00, it was propane and lasted for years. I like this one better though.
