too hot to handle

I am attempting to flat grind some 3/32 stock and the blade is getting way too hot to handle even on the first pass over the belt and even with a new belt. I can still hold the tang but the fingers that are on the blade itself are getting blistered. Is this normal when using material this thin or am I doing something wrong?

Pushing too hard??? I use 3/32 in my folders mostly and yes it does heat up quickly....also it may depend on what steel yer useing I find the ones that are harder to grind also heat up quicker, possibly from giving more pressure....the way I get away from the heat like in filleting blades and such thin knives is to use a grinding magnet......I also use a 8" disc for all my grinding!
