Possible scam .. anyone got info?

archival_research_1@yahoo.com

Got an e-mail from this adress above.. here is what he wrote:

Quote:
Dear Sir:

I have a Japanese sword (katana) with the XVIII century blade and I would like to sell it for the fee of 400$. I have all the papers which shows I am a curent holder of this item. If you think you could have any interest in such antique item, please let me know.

With respect.

Tomek

Archival_Research_1@yahoo.com
I wrote back asking for information on the sword and how did he get my e-mail. He sent the sword information (in not so bad english) with some pics (not very good ones) and said nothing of how he came by my e-mail. Today though one of my brazilian bladesmiths friends sent me the same message asking me if I knew something about it. Odd... so I think it might be a scammer...

Anyone got a similar e-mail?

They're a spammer that trolls swordforum, I have gotten a few from him. I'm surprised he made his way over here unless you happen to go to swordforum too.

Haven't heard anything about a scam such as this, but it sounds suspicious to me. Find out where he is from, better yet, just let it pass on by. Might save yourself $400 worth of grief.

This is a classic betrayal spam. First big tipoff is either a Hotmail or Yahoo email account.

Not worth the response.
