I'd definitely go with the bm42 - it's the gold standard of balisongs. If you're in to balis for any length of time, you will end up with one anyway, so it's a good place to start!

BM42. You'll probably hear the same if you talk to more people. We're pushy that way.

Welcome Stan .., no need to add another vote for a BM 42. As Dave said.., it's been the standard "non-junk" starter knife for years now, and is generally the "Gateway to the Customs"...

You could also get a Typhoon kit if you feel handy. Darn nice knife for the money.

Red face Bali Kits

You know i tried making my own balisong about 6 years ago...It was basically a trainer with silver handles and a cheap bali blade...it lasted better than those old pakistinian factory made knives that i bought by the dozens!!!!If i ever set up a good solid workplace in my home..guaranteed to try again!!!

Sorry, newbie here. I have a mint condition n.i.b. Bm42 that I need to sell. I find myself in serious need of cash. What is it worth and is anybody interested?
