titanium
i had talked to ron nott awhile back. we spoke of a specific alloy of titanium. i had lost the no. i had written down . he says knife makers use this for knife making. i had seen somewhere on the forum where a fellow used it to make liners for a folder and another with engraved overlays on another folder. i,d like to know why this metal is so popular for knife making. i have a sheet of ams4908f at .032 thick. is this type any good for the purpose of knife making. how tough is it to engrave., etc. any comments or help with understanding what this stuff is used for on knives will be app. i am a gun engraver, mostly , ron has seemed to get me into the knives now and i am enjoying it very much. johnpilk ps i by trade am a aircraft metalsmith, mechanic, and composite repairman.

Your probably thinking of 6AL 4V Ti. I think this aloy is used because of it's "spiringyness". I use it for all of my liners. I'm sure Ron will be along to answer the engraving part of your question.
