finger-knotcher

cheapo finger notcher

I ran out of those little sanding sleeves, the other night.

I was standing there looking at my bench when I came up with this.

Just chuck a drum in each press.

Two speed depending on which press you turn on. The other press acts as an idler.

Be pretty simple to clamp an idler wheel arm onto the drill press column.

Clever idea, but I would think it would be rather hard on the drill press bearings.

On the other hand Mike, if you took it a step further and figured out a setup using drill press vices to stabilize each drill head it would work pretty good. Think about it a bit and you'll come up with the same idea I have. It would be difficult to describe it here. And you could actually adjust the tracking with one or both drill press vices if they were the kind that move in two directions. Cool idea though.

well it actually works just as it is. WHy, I dunno.

Yes it is hard on the bearings, I been told that before, but the one on the left was sloppy when I got it so...

I'm thinking maybe ,adapting a chuck to a 1/2 hp motor, that way I can use the nifty little rubber mandrell set I already have.

Got a couple skate wheels for idlers, I used them before, supriselingly they hold up real well. I learned that one from Ralph Freer.

Where there's a will, there's a way. Thanks for posting that, Mike. It's always good to see someone using their brain for something other than holding up the sides of their skull.

Hey Ron--Welcome to the forum. Don't be a stranger.

i like that much easier than what i did when i got tired of changing sleeves and the slow speeds i ordered a small wheel from sheffields that would fit a bader if i had one and made a machine around it that uses the same belts that my regular grinder uses and i set it up at the same angle as my drill press so i wouldn't have to learn how to do it differently and it runs a whole lot faster than my drill press ever could yay!
