I heard that Gene Osborne was going to shoot a video of Chad Nichols making some of his killer mosaics. Chad has been making some really hot patterns for William Henry knives lately, and turns out some of the best mosaic damascus around.

If that video is available, or becomes available in the near future I would consider it a great resource.

Ed has a basic damascus video and a mosaic damascus video, both are good.
We also have cable and composite damascus.

I am scheduled to shoot again with Ed in Oct working with w's.
Chad will soon be on our list as well Steve Swartzer, Al Pendrey, and Ray Rybar (who does scripture IN the damascus) for variety.

CCIV wants to know what YOU, (the student) wants to learn.

I think if you are going to do a video on the W pattern you should get Joel Davis to give the instruction.

Joel is the master of the W pattern and no one, IMO, has done more with it than Joel. Very original work.

I'd have to agree with Joel Davis, for such a young guy, he has done some fantastic work. He makes his living full time just making damascus, that should say a lot! I've sat down with Joel and picked his brain at the Denver show... in just a few minutes his patterns and techniques blew me away!
Joel Davis; 507-377-0808 <joelknives@yahoo.com>

You get Joel to make a video,,,,,,,, I'll be first in line to buy one!! ----Jon

The Turkish twist is fairly simple, in theory, multiple twisted bars welded on edge, then drawn to a point... Getting the twists to match and doing just the right amount of stock removal to expose the 'stars' is the trickier part. A lot of variety can be had by changing the layer count, the tightness of the twists, and the number of twisted bars used.

This is an interesting document on pattern development:http://www.vikingsword.com/fimo.pdf
This is another good article... http://www.vikingsword.com/serpent.html

Cool sample of Joel's work

I found a sample of Joel's work called "Warpspeed" mosaic, used on the bolsters only. It's a Stan Wilson knife. ....... Jon
