Need help with photo hosting!
I think it was here that someone recently mentioned hosting photos on your own website. I've set up a page on my site for that purpose, but I can't seem to access them when I want to add them to a forum post.
Could anyone give me step-by-step directions to help me get started on this? TIA! Holger |

Hi Holger.
First thing you need to know is the direct URL to your image. It'll be something like: http://www.yourserver.com/images/img001.jpg Once you know that, you're set. When you post, look above the box you're typing in for the IMG button. Press it, then paste in the direct URL to your image. Hit OK and preview your post. You should be able to see your picture. If you're having trouble storing your picture, I have a free alternative for CKD members at my site (http://www.internetbusinesslinks.net). It is a web-based image gallery where you can upload your pics to your own gallery. When you view one of your pics in the gallery, it shows you the direct URL to the image below the picture. Good luck! [EDITED to say]: Where are you hosting your pictures? Some of the free picture hosting sites (Yahoo and others) don't allow outside requests for images stored on their servers. __________________ Jamey Saunders -- Charter Member, GCKG (Got a question? Thanks for the advice, Jamey. I already use PictureTrail as my online hosting service (works great), but I recently saw a thread about using your own website to host your photos and I thought I would try that. I'll keep trying.

If you still can't get it to work, post again and tell me exactly what steps you're going through to try to post a pic. I'll help you get it right. Posting pictures on these forums is kinda like a rite of passage. Once you can post a picture, everything else is easy!

Thanks! I've never had problems posting photos from PictureTrail in those "other" forums.
I thought hosting them from my own website sounded much more efficient. Here's what I am typing into my message: What am I doing wrong? (Does the fact that my website is hosted by Yahoo have anything to do with it?) TIA, Holger |

I guess you'll have to check "Properties" to see what I typed?   |

See, I don't have a problem doing it the "normal" way!

Hey! That's a pretty cool knife! You need to post it in the Display Case forum with some specs. I'd like to see more pics, too.
I looked at the page source, and you typed in: < img src="http:// www . cockroachfarm.com/ PhotoHosting1/roach-edc5R" border="0" alt="" > (spaces added to break up the HTML.) Instead of using the regular HTML < img > tag, you need to use the forum's [ IMG ] tag (no spaces). If you use the button to post an image, take a look at the syntax after you paste in the URL and hit OK. You'll see the URL surrounded by [ IMG ] and [ /IMG ] (no spaces). |

Sorry to be wasting "forum time" with this, but just so there's some "knife content" to my thread, here are a couple of pics.
The knife is my EDC, a custom framelock from Bud Weston. (It's one of the first he made so it might be a bit rough around the edges compared to what he's producing now!) Titanium handles, damasteel blade. Unlike most of the knives in my collection, I actually USE this - so excuse the scratches and fingerprints. Thumbstud inlaid with MOP; my "signature" cockroach was engraved by Mrs. A. Klihavcova (Czech Republic). Spine of blade is fileworked by Bud. Notice how he adjusts the spacing "visually" for a pleasing 'graduated' effect from butt to tip? |

I looked at the source of this page again, and I see the problem when you tried to post the first picture: You didn't give he file extension. You know, the ".jpg" at the end? The file you named couldn't be found. It would have been found if the .jpg had been added to the end.
I see that you did get a picture posted, and you did it with the regular old HTML tag. I didn't think that was supposed to work, but it did for you. If using the button's easier for you, use it. If not, use the [ IMG ] tags. It makes for less typing to reference outside images that way. Now I wanna see more pictures of that knife! |

We were posting at the same time!
I'm glad to see that you got the pic posting to work. Post these over in the Display Case and you'll get a lot more exposure. I've just gotta ask: What's the fascination with cockroaches? |

I STILL can't figure out how to post photos when they are being hosted on MY website. (I have NEVER had problems posting pics when they are hosted by PictureTrail or other hosting sites) So let's figure this out 'cause it's really annoying me! THEN I will giive you the poop (sorry, droppings) about my devotion to the roach! Holger |

I typed the URL you're trying to use (http://www.cockroachfarm.com/PhotoHo...oach-edc5R.jpg) into my browser's location bar and I'm not getting a page. Something in your URL isn't right. Sometimes they're case sensitive. The problem, though, is in your URL. That's something you have to check out. When you get a URL that you can paste into your browser's location bar and it will bring up your picture, that's the one you need to use here.
