Well, I'd be lying if I said I did that twist pattern on my little table top press. This was some of the stuff I got to do at Ed's a while back. I just now got around to putting it to use.

That little press is good for small billets and works good for mashing gaps closed on guards but it's a LOT of extra work on damascus, as you loose so much material due to having to be in and out of the fire so often. It'll be nice to get a big one built after we get settled in up in N. Idaho .

After a couple years this project is almost complete.

Rolls are 3" x 6" built out of 4140. I made the pillow blocks out of some bearings designed for very heavy loads (thanks Cal for the link). The frame is 100% bolt together with lots of load and alignment pins. Entire frame is 1/2 plate steel (I need some strong guys to take it off my table). I am guessing 300+ plus pounds.

I mounted the motor inside the enclosure to save space. If you ever used Jim's rolling mill, I hope to have the same running ratio. This motor (thanks Cal) is spec'd out for 30% more torque then Jim's.

I hope to get the gears and chain today and maybe this weekend under power.

I've been on a forging kick lately. Here's three more blades that I forged out and have ready to heat treat.

The large camp knife on top and the middle hunter are forged from 1095.

The bottom trailing point hunter is forged from 1075. All three will be getting some sort of hamon activity (if all goes according to plan )

The camp knife will be getting a "No Clay" hamon attempt. The two hunters I'll be using clay.

Maybe someday I'll actually get around to finishing some of these!
