The DR Button Lock
Don Robinson asked me to post pictures of my first successful results from his Button Lock class over in the School of Knifemaking. After a couple of false starts, this is what I ended up with, an almost exact replica of one of Don's signature assisted opening button lock folders. It hasn't been signed yet, or sharpened, but it works flawlessly. Locks up good in both the open and closed position; everything is straight and tight and smooth.
Blade and back spacer is 1095 Liners and bolsters are .100" titanium Scales are Koa and blue spacer material There's some brass trim in there, and a funky filework pattern that started out being something completely different. / That was the 3rd of four knives I built in the class. The first two had problems that can be fixed with a little effort. The fourth will be finished this weekend, I hope. -Frank __________________ --Frank J Warner Happiness is tight gibs and a flat platen. http://www.franksknives.com/ Last edited by Frank J Warner; 07-05-2006 at 03:17 PM. |

Awesome Frank!
Yeah, Don's designs work if you follow them. This one looks very good and the file work is very nice too. Did you use a milliing machine or lathe in this process? Just wondering how to do it without one of those. Bill |

That knife speaks volumes about both the teacher and the student. That is an excellent knife and I personally think the file work is great. I don't know what the file work started out to be, but it sure turned out beautifully. You should be very proud of your knife and Don, you should be very proud of your student.

Paul, Frank has been making beautiful folders for years. This was new for him because it's a button lock.
I have one of his locking liner folders and it's a real beauty too. Thanks . |
