H R heat treat oven , anyone know ?
I've been snooping around for a secondary oven just to temper in....
Paragon takes a good time to cool down, the toaster ovens suck for accurate consistent temps so I did come across a sweet deal on this little HR brand oven recently. It heats up to 1800F in roughly 25 mins and still plenty of room to keep going, I figure it should hit 2000F I think quite easily.....which I don't need really but I had to test it !! I have it home now and did an experiment temp accuracy test with my forge pyrometer vs the gauge on the unit, once it reaches 425F it maintains accurracy +/- 1 degree , hard to believe I thought but its nuts on.........the best part was the price $140 CDN so about $120USD , the firebrick , element and overall condition for the vintage is pretty darn 100% if anyone has any info on these ovens I'd be interested to read up on them , thanks __________________ R.Watson B.C. The company was formed in 1946. They started building ovens in the 60's due to the influx of hippies wanting to do pottery and bead work.. They saw the niche and filled it, but soon as the 70's came around they went bankrupt partially due to disco music and the fact that the hippie movement was dead.. It seems you have a 1968 model which is very collectable ! They usually sell for about 140$ CDN or 120$ US... I say you got a fair deal there Rob.....

Hey does anyone know where one could purchase one of these? For 140 dollars I'd love to have one for heat treating.

I picked up one of those $50 counter-top ovens from WalMart. It is not just a toaster oven. It is convection, rotisserie, broiler, toaster, etc.
I bought an over thermometer while I was there and set it on the cookie sheet with the blades I temper. Once I figured out exactly where the dial needs to be to hold desired temp (because just turning to the number won't be very accurate), it works great. I always leave it set for convection. This device looks much more precise. __________________ Andy Garrett https://www.facebook.com/GarrettKnives?ref=hl Charter Member - Kansas Custom Knifemaker's Association www.kansasknives.org "Drawing your knife from its sheath and using it in the presence of others should be an event complete with oos, ahhs, and questions." Now that's a dandy deal!
Don't worry Andrew, my wife wondered why my blades were in with the thanksgiving ham once. __________________ Zen R. ZCR Knives West Central Connecticut |
