Suppliers for large Kydex/Concealex sheet?
I walked into the shop of the local saddle/harness maker today, looking for a possible quantity of fasteners for a sheath project I'm working on. He didn't have any to sell, but that's not the end of the story.
We began chatting about handmade knives, and I found out that there are more local makers than I was aware of! One is working at the local grain elevator, making stock-removal blades on a part-time basis. I got his phone number, and hopefully I'll be able to make even more local contacts soon. Now, the purpose of this thread: when I asked if the saddlemaker had ever done any sheaths/leatherman cases/whatever in Kydex, he gave me a funny look and asked what it was. When I described the nature of Kydex, he remembered hearing about someone using something similar to make custom-fitted saddle trees. He wants to know more about kydex, so I'll bring in a sample to show him. Where would a person get a piece 32"*32"? TKS only stocks 24" wide, and I don't know the first place to start on Kleerdex's website. Does anyone have past experience dealing with Kleerdex? Will they ship single sheets? Will they send me a "sample"? Or does anyone have a big piece lying around they'd like to sell me? Another thought: Is Concealex more rigid than Kydex? Are any of the Kydex grades more rigid than others? __________________ -Daniel Jackson (\__/) (='.'=) This is Bunny. Thanks alot for all the help guys, I really appreciate it!
I did manage to find an old address for a Laird Plastics office in Edmonton (2 hrs away) who might be able to get something for me. I'll have to call them tomorrow. Who is the manufaturer of Concealex? __________________ -Daniel Jackson (\__/) (='.'=) This is Bunny. Copy and paste bunny into (")_(") your signature to help him gain world domination. |

Daniel-
I think many are still recuperating from Blade and others are on vacation or like me just plain swamped with work. Glad to see you have sense of humour! I do know a while back Simeon listed the manufacturer/distributor's (?) site for kydex and concealex. It might have been over on www.bladeforums.com Sorry I can't help more but I am strictly a leatherman myself. UPDATE found this on bladeforums You can get 4' x 8' sheets at; Laird Plastics 10737 King William Drive Dallas, Texas 75220 1-972-910-9404 You can also get it thicker if you want it. Have them cut it in 2' x4' pieces for shipment, its cheaper. the following thread over there discusses both kydex and concealex- http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...kydex+supplier __________________ Chuck Burrows Hand Crafted Leather & Frontier Knives dba Wild Rose Trading Co Durango, CO chuck@wrtcleather.com www.wrtcleather.com The beautiful sheaths created for storing the knife elevate the knife one step higher.
