Picture using new knife stand
I came accross these BIG BALLS in my workshop and thought they would make a great knife display stand.
The only problem, it's rather tough to get a photo without shadows on the ball. Any suggestions other than Photoshop? |

I think you've done all you can do. A full 360? tent would be impossible.
A really good artist could make this look plausible, but here is a hack job which at least keeps the sharp edges from distracting. (I used the smudge tool at 90%) Nicely done. How did you cut the bearing? Coop |

Thanks Coop, I tried to clean it up with Photoshop but the more I tried the worse it looked so I finally just left it the way I shot it.
I ground a flat on the bearing and then I took my Dremel tool with a cut off disk and cut a slot in the top of the ball. |

Stephen - Coop's is the most effective and efficient method but IMHO it would be better to put a satin finish on the bearing surface so reflections will be diffused and minimized. However, if I were going to use a stand like that I'd prefer clear plastic with no logos or markings - less distracting.

I like the stand!
I do agree that you might put a satin finish on though... maybe bead blast it or anodize it? __________________ -Andrew Riley For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword.... Just drop them in some acid.

That's pretty cool?..I like it. Don't think the reflection is enough to distract from the knife?..what about a white board held by hand to interfere with the reflection? Just a thought.
