Epoxy Product
In the past, I've made knives with a variety of adhesives. Eventually, I settled on a Loctite formula available at Lowe's (more for convenience than any other reason). It performs well enough, but never quite cures rock hard.
As I was building my boat over the last three and half years, I have become an expert in epoxy use--having used gallons of the stuff. As it turns out, I had a half gallon of boat-building epoxy left over, and decided to use it for my two most recent knives. I can say that I am very pleased with the performance. Boat building epoxy has to be very strong due to the forces involved. It must bond wood to wood and wood to metals such as bronze and galvanized steel with no room for error. I thought that these properties would make it great for knifemaking and so far, I am not disappointed. Here is what I used: It can be found here in various quantities. http://www.boatdesigns.com/Poxy-Grip/products/287/ The quart kit would last for hundreds if not thousands of knives. Just thought I'd share. __________________ Andy Garrett https://www.facebook.com/GarrettKnives?ref=hl Charter Member - Kansas Custom Knifemaker's Association www.kansasknives.org "Drawing your knife from its sheath and using it in the presence of others should be an event complete with oos, ahhs, and questions." |

Brother Andy,
I have Been working on a 1975 Aluminum hull / Wood Top Chris Craft Boat & Restoration for about 6 yrs now it is a Runabout style with a 1954 Johnson Seahorse 3 Horsepower Motor . I too have tried many epoxies in the process yet had finally settled on the very one you have posted about 2 years ago when a friend gave me some of his to try out for the console fitting and assembly . Thank you for posting I just did not think folks would not try anything else as many are set in their ways . __________________ R. I use the West System that I get from USA Knife Maker Supply. I mix it by weight, you can get a scales from jewelry supply dealers, and the stuff really holds.
